The Norval Foundation

The Norval Foundation, a centre for art and cultural expression, is just a few minutes’ drive from The Last Word Constantia. Their team is devoted to not only exhibiting, but also researching the 20th and 21st century visual art from South Africa and afar. An appreciation for nature is evident in their lush surrounds and location, as they are adjacent to the Table Mountain National Park. The facilities consist of a sculpture garden, research library, exhibition spaces and outdoor amphitheatre. This wide variety of exhibition space offers guests a multisensory experience.

The foundation aims to create high-quality exhibitions and public programming to broaden our understanding of the visual arts. Art has the power to enrich our lives and artists contribute to our communities in a profound way, making this a long-awaited addition to the Constantia area.

The Skotnes Restaurant & Bar

The Skotnes Restaurant and Bar is the culinary section of the Norval Foundation. Named after celebrated South African artist and teacher Cecil Skotnes, the restaurant is naturally at home in the world of art. Overlooking the foundation’s tranquil wetland and Sculpture Garden, the Skotnes flawlessly combines nature and architecture. The menu pays tribute to classical South African cuisine, while updating its flavours and refining its ingredients to their simplest possible presentation. All ingredients are sourced from local, small-batch suppliers, with the intention of supporting and uplifting local communities. At the helm of the Skotnes is Executive Chef Phil de Villiers. The Skotnes Restaurant was recognised by Eat Out Readers as “Highly Commended” in the Best Everyday Eatery Awards 2018.
